    WOW..life in the fast lane

My father-in-law loves to say... "that is life in the fast lane" or "that is what you get when you run with the big dogs".  Generally, he's replying to me ... telling him how busy we are.  I can tell you this much...I'm definitely living life in the fast lane.

Since I last wrote, on April 18th....let me think what has happened.

OH....yes...Ryan began a new season in baseball!  He usually plays catcher.  His daddy had not seen him play in about a year and a-half...so despite my telling him how much he had improved...he was shocked to see a totally new catcher.  He was quick...he was throwing good throws (for the most part), I mean...heck, for Fall ball, he couldn't get it to the pitcher mound from home without crossing the plate.  Now, he's zinging it to the pitcher...often too hard that it's missed.  The boys played really hard for their first game together; but lost.  They were coming back...put 7 runs on the board...but, the game was called.  It was best.. we didn't start until nearly 8:40 and it *WAS* a school night.  We didn't get home until nearly 11.  Their second game was...well...it wasn't his best catching game.  He caught for 3 innings.  The team is really a hodge podge of players.  They don't have any 'really good' players at any one position.  Ryan and two other boys are the oldest ones and it seems sometimes the others have't ever played before.  They have one kid who has a really lazy way to pitch...and he got 7 strikeouts.  Ryan got a taste of pitching.  The 4th inning, coach put him in for 4 batters.  He walked three and struck out 1.  He was very nervous and he had been catching for 3 innings; so he was not really ready for this debut on the mound.  Like a proud mommy; I recorded it.  I kick myself for not getting any snap shots...but I feel sure I can get them from the camcorder.  He likes pitching now and fortunately; the coach sees potential in him.  His size and being a lefty has always worked against him.  He's "too small to catch"  or "he might get hurt" or my favorite, "lefties shouldn't be catcher".  .. those are things we are always told.  He's played since he was 5 years old.  He got his own catcher's equipment for his birthday one year and in a pinch, coaches have let him catch an inning or a play or two.  He's never really been 'trained' to catch.  I work with him as much as I can; but listenig to mommy only goes so far.  I can say this, he has learned the I am his #1 fan and I've been the one who's helped him get where he is skill wise...so he's trying to listen to me.  But...he is ONLY 10.... he will tune me out.  I know that.

I'm so very proud of him.  He looks like such a big guy out on the field.  He smiles during the games now and he loves it.  He has heart if nothing else.

Kaitlyn had her first soccer game too.  She is a real 'go getter' on the field.  She is a big hoot to watch.  I know very little about soccer.  That is her daddy's game.  He is really loving that she's taken to soccer.  I can see it in his eyes.  I know he wanted Ryan to play; but unfortunately, he's not really shown an interest.  He's watching his sister play now and says he wants to try it.  So who knows, maybe he can do both?  I'd hate to see him quit baseball...

Anyway... Kaitlyn managed to be paired up with the "ALL STAR" on the opposing team...and she gave him a run for his money!!!  She hung tough!!  I felt so sorry for her when she fell down though.  I wanted to go out and scoop her up and protect her.  It made me sad to see her fall over feet...hers or the others.  She got up and kept going though.  She really does enjoy it.  Her second game, she got to play goalie.  BOY...... according to the in-laws...she did really well.  She blocked several attempts and she played 1/2 the game.  I missed the game because of work; hubby missed it because of drill.  But.....that is LIFE IN THE FAST LANE!!

Speaking of "FAST LANE".... Wednesday is our... relax day.  We only have a 5:30 soccer picture appointment.  Thursday is another "FAST LANE" day.  Both kids have to be at the park by 5:15...one's game starts at 5:30 the other at 6.  Needless to say, we'll miss part of the latter game.  Ryan plays at 6, I think he'll be fine if we miss...heck, who knows, maybe without mama's loud mouth there...he'll play better!?!?  I know I get excited... but it's tough watching the boys work so hard during the game and walk away with 0 on the board.  Anything but the 0!!!  I love baseball....always have..I just get excited.  Some folks fuss at the TV for basketball, football, hockey or what have you...I fuss at little league games!!

Well...let me slow myself down to a rest... time to park this fast lane ride into bed and refuel.

    g'night

    Up and goin'

Well, here I am trying again.  Yet another blog!  These things are so hard to maintain.  I hope this one is an exception.  I started this one because I hope to find it a great outlet to keep friends and family updated.  That being said....here goes:

WE FINALLY DID IT!! We finally bought a house!!  The previous year, our family endured being separated because of the deployment of Tom in Iraq.  On November 1, 2006, we were VERY fortunate to have him back home with us.  We had made some strategic changes that permitted us to begin seeing our dream become a reality.  The untimely deployment took us by surprise and now that it's behind us...we can look at it as a lesson.  The deployment permitted us to qualify for VA benefits thus ... in March we finally found our family home. We not only celebrated a month of birthday's....but we celebrated the closing on Marc 27th.

We've not gotten entirely settled in yet.  We moved in during the kids' Spring break week, first week of April.  We spent Easter weekend relaxing in OUR home.  Since then...it's been life in the fast lane.  Kids' sports has kicked off, the school year is winding down, work is steady for us both and we still have a storage building to work into the new home.  We also have to design and build the hobby/craft room.

Well....I'll work on photos and a journal about the house and the kid's....
