August goes flyin' by

Did you see that!?!?!?  August just flew by!!! Here it is Saturday, August 30th...1 more day and September is upon us!  Whoooooaaa..where did it go?

Well, we have been in school since the 13th of August....Labor Day will be our first holiday since school started. Middle school is going okay...thus far, my boy is in all accel classes and maintaining A's....and he's in band...seems so proud to be playing his daddy's tenor sax.  He's also really doing well on reading...I was afraid he would really fight that requirement of middle school.  But, as I write this, I can report that he finished a second book by James Patterson...first was "Angel Experiment" and second was "School's Out Forever"...I imagine book three will be finished in about a week.  He's moving up the ranks in Boy Scouts too..he's skipping the Fall season of baseball...first time since he was 5 years old.  We figured that with middle school, band, Scouts...he needed to let baseball go for now.  He wanted to join the middle school team for a fall session; but we opted out of that...he was a little torn...but in the end...it's a good break...but I DO miss the ball field.

Our baby girl..now she's a hoot!! Already in 4th grade and she's FINALLY able to join Orchestra....something she's been waiting on since 1st grade.  She has begged to play the violin for 3 years now and the day she got her borrowed violin she was so giddy it was beyond cute!!  She came home that night (after we got a book) and she started practicing. She's not let a day go by that she's not pulled it out and tried something.  She's playing Soccer...third season in a row I think...feels like it just started with her.  She asked to play back in 2005...and having never played before we never expected to see her move up in the division.  She's now in the U10 mixed league and plays pretty good as a goalie...she has off days, like we all do...but she hates to run and goalie's don't run!!! (I respect that!!).

Myself and hubby....we are doing fine.  Working to pay bills and keep kids involved.  We like our jobs...would be nice to get paid more...but don't we all want that???  Hubby has been out 'saving the world' ... doing tours with the KY Nat'l Guard...watching the hurricane move in..looks like he will be doing rescue down there...slated to leave for that soon....he just got back from Las Vegas...took a helicopter out for the guard unit that crashed one there.  Of course, we are also looking ahead to about Aug 09 and hubby might be mobilized to Kosovo.... woooo hooo!! (NOT!!!).... but, he loves what he does...and I respect and admire him for doing it...but I hate being left as a single mom...I seem to stay exhausted...I know....it's life!!!

Well, time for supper and kick back to enjoy steaks on the grill....a Labor Day tradition!!!

God Bless My Readers

Summer is OVER!!!

OK...now..it's official...SUMMER IS OVER!!! YIKES!! Confused

My baby girl turned 9 today, she and I ended the summer at Camp Judy Layne (Girl Scout camp).  I have to say, I REALLY did enjoy the camp experience.  Having not gone as a child myself, it was an opportunity for me to experience camp somewhat like a Girl Scout.  The 10 girls we had were a really great group of girls and of course, the 4 moms (including me) were just AWESOME!!  Wink  The "COOL MOM'S" joined in and had fun with the girls.  I hope to post a few photos soon...of my girl atleast.

We met a LOT of really great gals there at camp and I hope to keep them as friends beyond camp...of course, I have them on all the popular sites, myspace and facebook and of course the instant messengers. I really enjoyed meeting those 'youngins' and I can say that...because for ONCE in my life, I was actually the OLD FART of the bunch!!  One of the mom's, my dear friend "COMPLICATED" is like 11 years younger!!!  And our leader, "BRADY" is about my sister's age (3 years younger) and another lady, "GIGGLES" is about 2 years younger...thankfully, she's close in age!!!  Wondering about the 'nicknames'...well, all of the counselors at the camp had nicknames, we knew none of their birhnames...so being the 'cool mom's' we asked for them to bless us with nicknames...I got "CLICK" because I always had a camera with me and of course, you have the others.

I'd like to take a moment to give out a hollar to those gals at Camp....
ACORN, our hiking guide...and please forgive me for forgetting the two other guides names.
CHEETAH, an all around fun gal...she last saw us at "gross pond" where our leader, "BRADY" got dumped in!
SMILEY, for dumping BRADY into the pond and making our canoeing adventure fun and educational....we learned she was a firefighter!!!
COMET, another gal who got to know our girls and cooked, washed dishes, helped them climb the rock wall, jumped on the jumping pillow and framed COMPLICATED to do the dishes that last day...we'll be calling you!!
MUSTANG, what a wonderful young lady!! She and my daughter seem to be good friends...she was so funny and a blast to hang with, she was always there it seems, rock wall climbing, bouncing pillow, dinner...!!
OTTER, we didn't see much of her...but she was at the first camp with my and Brady's daughter...a VERY fun gal who the kids love dearly!
TONTO, thanks for helping our girls out with their skit!!!  Very memorable moment for us mom's!  You run a VERY classy camp!!
MIDNITE, what a fun gal!  A lot of fun and I think along wtih COMET, CHICK-A-DEE and MUSTANG ... devoured brownies while getting to know us.
CHICK-A-DEE, you are a HOOT!!  You seem like a really sensitive girl...and very funny....hope the brownies made you happy!!!
SCOOBY, now, you are one of the popular gals with our girls...and you were a lot of fun...we didn't get to sit and get to know you much...but you were great with the girls...you did cook a MEAN meal for us there on Friday...you should be VERY proud of yourself.
ZULU, another gal that I admire...she too was always taking pictures...and she managed to get them all onto CD just in time for us before campe was over!!
... ANYONE ELSE I FORGOT...I'm sorry!!!  Remember, I'm the old fart of the bunch...if I forgot you, please....remind me...leave me a message!!!

Until next time....I'll remember the friends we met at Camp Judy Layne and hope to see you there if not before....BIG THANKS TO YOU ALL!!!

Hugs to my readers,
Cass
