9月30日 Soccer *AND* Baseball....We knew it was going to be a busy day... baseball started at 11am and soccer at 11:30am...how was I to get between fields and give equal attention to my stars!?!? Well, with camera in hand...keys in pocket and good shoes on my feet, I managed...well enough. Ryan was FINALLY starting infield at 1st base...first time for this Fall team this season. He was all smiles when he came to tell me and I told him I was glad and for him to do his job. His granny and papaw arrived shortly after the game started. They too were going to do the field shuffle...but they were leaving early. They did get to see Ryan up to bat once (only to be hit by a pitch) then they got to see him on 1st. I was glued to the game hoping he'd make a significant play...but it was pretty much a 1-2-3 inning and they were batting again. I was just about to rush over, notified Ryan I was going and he informed me he was pitching the next inning!!! WOW!!! YES.. I was shocked...but worried too. He'd not taken the mound in a long time. This coach had given him NO instruction or practice...I prayed for him as I rushed over to watch soccer. Upon arrival, I found Kaitlyn in the goal. They were down by one..I got to see them score a goal and rushed over to catch Ryan in a wind up...I approached slowly since I knew he'd see me as I was directly behind the catcher. I waited until the ball crossed the plate and took my position. Another parent walked over and gave me compliments on his form and power...but he was having trouble getting it down the middle. He was skimming the outer edge of the plate and the volunteer coach/ref was calling them balls...a regular ump would have given him a strike on that...but he held on...he made a GREAT attempt to prevent a steal at home on a wild pitch; unfortunately, his former teammate slid right under the tag...but it was a GREAT effort!!! He hung in and pitched a few more pitches...struggled...walked a few and the coach took a trip or two out to talk to him before finally pulling him. He was so depressed...but he took center field and let the relief pitcher do his job. They won...it was a slaughter. I was on my journey back to the soccer field, as I reached the fence, the game was ending. Kaitlyn spotted me and announced that she scored a goal!! (DARN IT..I MISSED IT!!!)... she'll do it again for me...I know she will. We got back to his game, watched it end and left the park by 2:30...GAMES OVER...do it again next week!! 9月16日 Green Machine TeamFall ball is more of an informal setting. It allows kids to learn the rules of the game. Since Ryan is moving up to the Major division of the local Cal Ripken league...it's perfect instruction time for him. He's on the GREEN team and so far, he's made friends with a middle schooler who's also a lefty. He's managed to also get to catch at least once in every game....something that not many coaches permit of a lefty catcher! I get frustrated when I hear coaches say, "A lefty can't catch"... and we have to constatly remind Ryan that coaches will not permit it if he is not on top of his game and show them "A LEFTY CAN CATCH". He has to work hard to prove himself....he has to work really hard and so far he's managed to show them the error of their ways. He's had good and bad days...don't get me wrong..he's not a perfect catcher and he has a LOT of work before he's going to be signing to play for big money...but I firmly believe, as I was raised, "he can do ANYTHING he puts his mind to".
Enjoy the photos...I enjoy taking them and watching the game between frames!!! Soccer...with dad as coach!!What else is there to say... daddy loves soccer and so does his little girl!! She's an AWESOME goalie..watching her is so fun! The one day we had rain and overcast conditions, she played harder...getting muddy diving for the ball. Parents were just so excited watching her. I heard many of them say, "man that goalie is tough", as I walked up and down the sidelines taking photos. Our team parents were very excited at her performance and said, "she is on fire today!!". One game, against the "KICKERS" was extremely intense. They DEFINITELY lived up to their name and Kaitlyn took a beating in the goalie box....one girl would kick at the ball even though she had it in her hands....why the ref didn't call it I have no idea!!!
More recently, I was chatting with the league photographer who was out taking action shots...we had exchanged camera talk earlier this month..he stated, "I have gotten about 50 of that goalie down there (pointing to Kaitlyn), she is down right awesome!!!" I proudly said, "THAT is my little girl!"
I cannot wait to see the photos he got! My camera did well, but I'm sure a professional will do better.
Enjoy the photos. .... more to come... Season will be over around October 11. Fall is full of fun!!WOW!! Can you believe it's September already!?!?!? Well, we are officially a month into the 2007 school year. Fundraisers have started and almost ended. School photos are underway in the next week. I've settled into things and all of my volunteer work keeps me busy. I'm doing the yearbooks for the elementary and middle schools...will be a fun filled year for me.
The kids are into Scouts, Ryan is working on his Webelos rank...he's almost done. Kaitlyn is bridging up to Girl Scouts (out of Brownies). They are also into other things. Kaitlyn is playing soccer again...and she's GOOOD!!! I'm so proud of her. She loves playing. Read my soccer blogs about her. Ryan's in baseball...he's HOPING to make the JV team at the middle school....but for now, Fall Rec league is keeping us busy. You can read more about that too.
