    August goes flyin' by

Did you see that!?!?!?  August just flew by!!! Here it is Saturday, August 30th...1 more day and September is upon us!  Whoooooaaa..where did it go?

Well, we have been in school since the 13th of August....Labor Day will be our first holiday since school started. Middle school is going okay...thus far, my boy is in all accel classes and maintaining A's....and he's in band...seems so proud to be playing his daddy's tenor sax.  He's also really doing well on reading...I was afraid he would really fight that requirement of middle school.  But, as I write this, I can report that he finished a second book by James Patterson...first was "Angel Experiment" and second was "School's Out Forever"...I imagine book three will be finished in about a week.  He's moving up the ranks in Boy Scouts too..he's skipping the Fall season of baseball...first time since he was 5 years old.  We figured that with middle school, band, Scouts...he needed to let baseball go for now.  He wanted to join the middle school team for a fall session; but we opted out of that...he was a little torn...but in the end...it's a good break...but I DO miss the ball field.

Our baby girl..now she's a hoot!! Already in 4th grade and she's FINALLY able to join Orchestra....something she's been waiting on since 1st grade.  She has begged to play the violin for 3 years now and the day she got her borrowed violin she was so giddy it was beyond cute!!  She came home that night (after we got a book) and she started practicing. She's not let a day go by that she's not pulled it out and tried something.  She's playing Soccer...third season in a row I think...feels like it just started with her.  She asked to play back in 2005...and having never played before we never expected to see her move up in the division.  She's now in the U10 mixed league and plays pretty good as a goalie...she has off days, like we all do...but she hates to run and goalie's don't run!!! (I respect that!!).

Myself and hubby....we are doing fine.  Working to pay bills and keep kids involved.  We like our jobs...would be nice to get paid more...but don't we all want that???  Hubby has been out 'saving the world' ... doing tours with the KY Nat'l Guard...watching the hurricane move in..looks like he will be doing rescue down there...slated to leave for that soon....he just got back from Las Vegas...took a helicopter out for the guard unit that crashed one there.  Of course, we are also looking ahead to about Aug 09 and hubby might be mobilized to Kosovo.... woooo hooo!! (NOT!!!).... but, he loves what he does...and I respect and admire him for doing it...but I hate being left as a single mom...I seem to stay exhausted...I know....it's life!!!

Well, time for supper and kick back to enjoy steaks on the grill....a Labor Day tradition!!!

    God Bless My Readers

    Summer is OVER!!!

OK...now..it's official...SUMMER IS OVER!!! YIKES!! Confused

My baby girl turned 9 today, she and I ended the summer at Camp Judy Layne (Girl Scout camp).  I have to say, I REALLY did enjoy the camp experience.  Having not gone as a child myself, it was an opportunity for me to experience camp somewhat like a Girl Scout.  The 10 girls we had were a really great group of girls and of course, the 4 moms (including me) were just AWESOME!!  Wink  The "COOL MOM'S" joined in and had fun with the girls.  I hope to post a few photos soon...of my girl atleast.

We met a LOT of really great gals there at camp and I hope to keep them as friends beyond camp...of course, I have them on all the popular sites, myspace and facebook and of course the instant messengers. I really enjoyed meeting those 'youngins' and I can say that...because for ONCE in my life, I was actually the OLD FART of the bunch!!  One of the mom's, my dear friend "COMPLICATED" is like 11 years younger!!!  And our leader, "BRADY" is about my sister's age (3 years younger) and another lady, "GIGGLES" is about 2 years younger...thankfully, she's close in age!!!  Wondering about the 'nicknames'...well, all of the counselors at the camp had nicknames, we knew none of their birhnames...so being the 'cool mom's' we asked for them to bless us with nicknames...I got "CLICK" because I always had a camera with me and of course, you have the others.

I'd like to take a moment to give out a hollar to those gals at Camp....
ACORN, our hiking guide...and please forgive me for forgetting the two other guides names.
CHEETAH, an all around fun gal...she last saw us at "gross pond" where our leader, "BRADY" got dumped in!
SMILEY, for dumping BRADY into the pond and making our canoeing adventure fun and educational....we learned she was a firefighter!!!
COMET, another gal who got to know our girls and cooked, washed dishes, helped them climb the rock wall, jumped on the jumping pillow and framed COMPLICATED to do the dishes that last day...we'll be calling you!!
MUSTANG, what a wonderful young lady!! She and my daughter seem to be good friends...she was so funny and a blast to hang with, she was always there it seems, rock wall climbing, bouncing pillow, dinner...!!
OTTER, we didn't see much of her...but she was at the first camp with my and Brady's daughter...a VERY fun gal who the kids love dearly!
TONTO, thanks for helping our girls out with their skit!!!  Very memorable moment for us mom's!  You run a VERY classy camp!!
MIDNITE, what a fun gal!  A lot of fun and I think along wtih COMET, CHICK-A-DEE and MUSTANG ... devoured brownies while getting to know us.
CHICK-A-DEE, you are a HOOT!!  You seem like a really sensitive girl...and very funny....hope the brownies made you happy!!!
SCOOBY, now, you are one of the popular gals with our girls...and you were a lot of fun...we didn't get to sit and get to know you much...but you were great with the girls...you did cook a MEAN meal for us there on Friday...you should be VERY proud of yourself.
ZULU, another gal that I admire...she too was always taking pictures...and she managed to get them all onto CD just in time for us before campe was over!!
    ... ANYONE ELSE I FORGOT...I'm sorry!!!  Remember, I'm the old fart of the bunch...if I forgot you, please....remind me...leave me a message!!!

Until next time....I'll remember the friends we met at Camp Judy Layne and hope to see you there if not before....BIG THANKS TO YOU ALL!!!

    Hugs to my readers,

    Things Entering My Mind Today

As I sit here in my favorite room in my home, my craft room, I glance out the window and see the grass is not green...it's actually almost paper bag brown.  The neighbors are watering their flowers, I probably should do the same...the kids are all playing football and beneath the window I can hear one of them getting a drink of water from the water hose.  The sweet sounds of summer on a typical Saturday.  The sky looks a bit overcast....will we finally see some much needed rain?  Of course, our recent trip south makes me realize it could be worse....NC and SC lakes were really low.  There were very few boaters out this July 4th weekend, a traditionally popular weekend for boating.  It was sticky hot and even in the shade I found myself sweating.  The pool was a great relief.

Anyway....I sit here and realize that my 'vacation' is coming to an end....quickly!!  I've been doing "work" related things all summer, but it won't be long and I'll be REQUIRED to get out of bed just as the sun begins to shine instead of hanging out in bed until the kids beg for lunch! Open-mouthed  I have been fortunate to take it easy, yet work on projects I wanted to do, this summer.  I think I can get use to this 'fringe' benefit of working for the school system.  I also have taken some time to reflect on life...mine in particular.  I'm at peace with myself.  I'm finally at peace with the fact that my sister moved to foreign soil...and I hold on to the prayers that we'll get to see them and experience that foreign land that she seems to really like.  I'm also happy to know that she finally 'made amends' with our parents after 12 years of estrangement.  I hope she too feels the peace within as I'm certain our parents do.  I could see it in my dad's eyes during our visit...I hooked him up a webcam and he got to use it to see my sister and her daughter.  His health is questionable right now and while I'm sure he'll be strong and fight to be here for us and his grandchildren...a number that is growing now thanks to the reunion with my sister and the pending arrival of a 2nd child to my brother and his wife.  Imagine that...there'll soon be 5 grandchildren on MY side of the family.  There's 6 on my DH's side (no more on the horizon!).  That is just so wild for me to think about.  How'd we get here?? It feels like we were kids just last week....wow!!!  [Yeah...I'm sounding a bit old!]

Life is weird.  In the grand scheme of things, I think life is pretty good...we always see things we would LIKE to change, but if I spend time making changes, I won't appreciate what I have.  Marriage...something I didn't really have in MY grand scheme of my life.  Don't get me wrong....it's a good thing.  Sure, there's been some really TRYING times and having survived a tour in Iraq...we are pretty confident that we can survive anything.  As I often think, I've been though the sickness and health, poorer...now I'm waiting on the richer!! Wink  My DH is such a wonderful man.  HE HAS NEVER forgotten our anniversary...and he always gets me SOMETHING.  He tries to surprise me but he hates to wait on the surprise and usually blows it himself.  This year, just to give an example of his thoughtfullness, he got me a dozen roses...not red PEACH....why?  Because, peach and emerald green were our wedding colors.  Thirteen years have gone by and he STILL remembers the wedding colors!!  Sorry guys...but he really does put a lot of thought in his gifts.  I hear of other couples on the verge of the "BIG D" and it breaks my heart.  I want to reach out and shake 'em and watch all the bad thoughts and feelings shatter and go away...but I know it's not that easy.  Living with someone is hard...sharing everything is hard...compromising is the hardest!!  I think that we often get so wrapped up in the fairytale of marriage that when we finally let reality settle in, we don't want to compromise anymore.  I know that first hand.  I was so caught up in my DH just doing what I wanted and not making me compromise that when we were faced with his Iraq tour, I realized this was something HE wanted and I had no choice but to compromise.  It wasn't somethine he MADE happen, but he is all about serving his country and I had no right making him feel it wasn't something he should do.  I dealt with it and I learned that I had to dig deep within myself and see who my DH was as an individual....before we married.  He was a man of the military and he had interests..things I didn't participate in.  So I promised to be more involved with his interests....and have done my best to keep that promise...I compromised.  I put aside my preconceived notions of his interests and embraced them.  We've since been able to go out as a family and do things HE enjoys thus we all enjoy something new from another perspective.

Life is one amazing event ...and like any other event, soccer game, baseball game, olympics, school....we have to really live in that moment or it will be gone...life will go on wheter we live it or not...we can live it alone or share it with someone.  Personally, I think I'm a better person because I have chosen to share it with someone...I now have three people to share it with on a regular basis...and I'd not trade it for anything!!!

Well...it's time to get the slip-n-slide out for the kids...give them some relief from the heat....and hopefully I'll get some good photos of this moment in our life!!!

    July 16

    Summer...where did it go??

OK... let me set the record straight for folks.  People (including myself) have always thought that teachers had one of the greatest jobs in the world...heck, who else gets about 3 months off PAID without taking vacation/sick/personal days?  Well...the crap that most 'teachers' (let's just say ANY SCHOOL OFFICIAL) has to endure the other 9 months out of the year *NEEDS* 3 months off to keep from going postal on folks.  I'm now a fortunate employee of our public education system and while I have been unemployed for 5 years prior to this and I know what it's like to be home with my kids....it IS not all it's cracked up to be.  Don't get me wrong.  I love... LOVE... LOVE (dare I say it again?).. LOVE... my job but ya know how hard it is to draaag your butt to work after a 4-day weekend?  or perhaps after Christmas holidays?  Well, imagine 3 months off and realizing, like I am, about 28 days before time to go back that you didn't accomplish what you thought you would and soon, your entire life will be consumed with school...and homework...and school activities...and as a mom, money for this, car ride to that...ugggh!!!!  I'm tired already!

I still say that school officials, well, from teachers down, aren't paid nearly enough.  Some folks get jobs as administrators...while they have to go into the office year-around...they DO make a heafty salary to show for it.  Me?  I'm just a comptuer geek....but I love it!  My philosophy about work has always been, enjoy it or leave so someone else can.  Having worked in retail for a measly salary and only about 20 hours....before this...I can say, this is FAR better than retail.  If I'd stayed in retail....I wouldn't be writing this from the freedom of my home because I would have gone postal on one of the many idiots shopping around out there.

So....I sit here on July 16th and it dawns on me...I have to get kids ready for school soon...clothes and shoes to buy.  I have to return to work and BOY do I have my work cut out for me this year....a lot of changes are taking place at my school....and computers don't get connected or moved to a teacher's desk without me.  Not to mention, all the stupid updates I'll be doing on "XP" machines...ugggh!!!  (Are updates still coming out!?!?)... note to self... check that out.

Anyway....so I sit here and I ask... "where did the summer go?"  I didn't get those scrapbooks finished I had hoped I would..my garage and attic are not cleaned...I did get a pond and fountain installed in my yard (thanks DH!!)...I did go see my family for the first time in 3 years...and I did spend a lot of time with my kiddos.  I also celebrated my 13th wedding anniversary... WOWSERS!!! I also got by another year w/o having a horrible gal bladder attack....wooo hooo!!!  But I still cannot put my finger on WHERE DID THE SUMMER GO?!?!!?

    :)  Happy Rest of Summer!!!

Yikes!!  Heck...time to buy kids school clothes...OMG...I have a middle schooler!!!! OMG!!!  I can't believe it!!!

Well....let me just share with you a slide show of my latest project... we installed a pond!!  Of coruse, took two days to get it this far...so enjoy the slide show...more to come as we wrap up the project with fountains, pump and filter system, lighting and more rocks to decorate....

    Kids at Camp

Monday is coming to a close...our baby girl has spent 1 night and a day away from us at camp....our baby boy is embarking on his first night away.  It's quiet here in the house...he dog looks for them...I find myself looking for them to come in any minute.  It was very hot here today...I can't help but hope they are staying hydrated and cool.

Photos here of them prepared for camp.  Our big girl was begging me to pack her up for 2 days!  She was MORE than ready to go...and I hope she enjoys it!  Our boy was a bit too eager to just climb on the bus...he never looked back.  Kinda worries me in a way...but in another way, makes me proud to know he's confident.  He did meet up with a classmate and I was history.  Of course, I don't think he realized the heat was going to be in the 90's today...he did leave with a good supply of water in his camel back..compliments of his dad.

!!!! Kiddos off to camp....mom and dad miss you !!!!
    June 04

    I can't believe....

I cannot believe that on Thursday, June 4 (less than 24 hours)....I will be the mom to a 6th grader!!!  YES... my boy is "graduating" from 5th grade tomorrow.  My baby girl will be a 4th grader!! WOW!! Surprised

The kids are leaving for camps on Sunday and Monday...they'll be gone for a week.  I am hoping to spend more time in my craft room, that is NOW complete....you can see photos on my craft blog.. http://craftycass.wordpress.com.  We spent about a year getting it designed and put together...I'm so proud of it and can't wait to spend a LOT more time in there working on my craft projects instead of designing the room.

The kiddos did their sports...Kaitlyn finished soccer in May... Ryan is attending his last game this Saturday.  He's playing the local Cal Ripken Major division as an Astro.  he was excited and did well when he was given a chance.  Being an 11 year old on a team with only about 2 more, he got VERY little playing time.  I'm proud of him because he stuck with it even though it was tough with those big boys.  I hope over the summer he buffs up and can begin to finally push back when he's pushed.

Hubby and I have adopted a work out program.  We bought the Wii fit a few weeks ago...it's addictive!!! I work on the yoga, then do the basic step aerobics then I defend my spot on the downhill ski...hubby is tying his BEST to beat me..but I bumped the stakes up last night...I'm around 370 now!!! Wink  We walk each night...fast pace..just over a mile and 1/2.  Every other day, we walk for 5 minute, jog for 1 minute and repeat for about 30 minutes.  It's pretty intense for me...but I have given myself  1 year (March 2009) to shed the weight...according to my Wii fit...my Wii age is 32 and I have lost about 2.2 lbs since we got it.  My ankles are really sore from the balancing on the balance board...makes it a little hard to walk.  I feel my legs reallly tightening up!!!

Well...it's almost my Wii fit workout time....Tomorrow is going to be an emotional day for me...my baby boy will graduate fifth grade!!!!!

Soccer Season Comes To A Close

Well, soccer has come to a close for the season....our little girl just finished her last season as a U8 player....*under 8*.  She will now move to the U10 league...a bit more competitive and the kids are bigger!!!  They ended the season with a GREAT win!  Dynamo got 2 and Revolution got 9.  One of Kaitlyn's teammates...a VERY good player, got 26 or 27 goals this season (that is 11 games!!)  Today alone, he scored 5.  Almost a double 'hat trick'..coach told him as he gave him his soccer ball patches.

Speaking of the patches...this season, we got into the season about 3 games and having lost 2 of the 3 we were baffled as to why we couldn't get the team to be a bit more aggressive.  So I did some research and discovered how some teams give out patches to sew/iron on kids uniforms to show their success.  Soccer balls usually signified goals scored, "D" usually signified good defensive player(s), lightning bolts were for those players who played defense/offense and a variety of others.  We adopted a patch system that REALLY motivated our team.  For every win, they would be awarded a gold star that would be applied to their RIGHT sleeve.  For every goal, they got a soccer patch, if our goalies got "D" patches usually for a game won while they occupied the goal or in some cases, if the team lost, they got "D" for being a good defensive player.  The kids got their minds set on things they wanted...be it a lightning bolt or "D"...they each walked away today with SOMETHING they tried hard for.  We lost one girl because of a broken arm...but overall, team revolution ended the season with 8 players that played 11 games...won 7 lost 4...NOT a really bad team this year!!!
    April 25

    Revolution on a roll...

    WOW!!
3 in a row for team REVOLUTION... !

Kaitlyn's team has won their last three games!! How exciting.  They beat team Kickers last night...6-4.  Kaitlyn played goalie (of course) and managed to fend off at least 4 goals.  Just a little insight here...the Kickers do live up to their name...it was brutal in the goal but Kaitlyn held steady.  The few she let past her were just enough to give the Kickers confidence but NOT too much!  The photos I took should show the fun...and one even shows a red ball (they changed it mid-game)...that was coming straight at Kailyn but she missed it!!  Maybe we'll tell it differently in the years to come....maybe that is one of the several she denied them!!!

    DSC_4116   DSC_4119

I'm finding it hard to take photos of the game now because I'm getting into it.  The kids are having fun, the parents are all great parents and the team has a great relationship.  All in ll, the kids are winning and learning.  It will be heartbreaking to see these kids split up next year into the older league....maybe we can convince Coach Tom to keep the team together Open-mouthed

    Next game....

    Baseball/Softball 4/19

The morning started at 7am for me... it was very cloudy out...had hoped to get rain and rain out the events of the day (not really!).... but we were on the soccer field at 8:30.  I had to step in and coach this weekend...hubby was doing guard duty.  RT had opening day ceremonies at same time at the baseball fields...and ironically, we listened to the Star Spangled Banner just before we kicked off.  I watched from a distance as the official start of JCYB baseball season started under a cloudy sky.

Soccer game was underway and the Revolution needed another win..the last 13-0 win was an example of what they can do.  The game was Revolution v Panthers.  Revolution kicked off and within a few minutes Revolution scored..then our goalie, Kaitlyn a.k.a. "Kricket",  let one by her....game was tied 1-1.  By the half...Revolution were up 3 - 1.  By the end of the 3rd quarter, the ball had never made it beyond the half court line and Revolution got another goal..an assist that was setup from the corner kick and yielded a 4th goal for one kids.  Score was 4-1.  Fourth/last quarter...another player got his first goal and just before the end...one of the girls got her first goal...a beautiful kick cleared the goal.  Score was 6-1 Revolution!!!

At 12:10, Ryan a.k.a. RT took the field...playing as an Astro for the first time in the Major division of Cal Ripken league Astros v Devil Rays...early on they were down by 1.  His game later ended 5-4 Astros lost.  I had to leave to take the field with my softball team, Twisters.  Softball went really bad first two innings once we took the field...we gave up 2 runs on errors...bringing the game to a 3-2 score...Twisters behind.  Those errors would could have haunted us but we got our heads back in the game .. pulled out a win afer a BEAUTIFUL deep to left center hit by our pitcher Gumby that yielded an in-the-park homerun!  Our catcher took several hits today but managed to get on base and steal all the way around.  Two other players got hits that had never hit...one got a double!!  All in all...as you'll see from the pictures...it was a day of winning...
    April 12

    Soccer has begun

Well....can you believe it's soccer season again already!?!?!  Oh..and baseball.  I can't.  Our first soccer game was Monday, April 7th and it was actually warm....the kids had a good time and ended up losing a hard fought game.  Kaitlyn a.k.a. "Kricket"  took a beating in the box...from the VERY well known kicking Cobras!!  She held them scoreless for a while but she wasn't able to fend off the huge kicks and aggressive style of playing.  She walked away with black knees and sore shins.  As a team, they did great to even score.  The second game was today, April 12th.  Baseball had been called and postponed until April 16th...so that meant I got to see the entire soccer game....but man...the weather had turned nasty on us.  We'd had 2 days of rain and today, it was so windy and coooooold.  I was glad we didn't have baseball too...I got to go home and rest before my softball team's first game of the season.  Yeah...I'm coaching softball.   Girls..fastpitch..9-12 year olds...the TWISTERS.  All in all, while we lost...we didn't get shut out!!!  The opponent was the "CRUSH"....a team that is going to live up to the name and take the title this year...but we made them fight for it.  Ending score was 7-4 ...

As a whole....we spent this Saturday between soccer and sofball and can credit ourselves with 5 hours of community service!!!!Open-mouthed
    April 03

    Craaap!! April 08 already!!

Well...so much for doing really good and blogging in 08 huh??  Here it is April and I realized I've not blogged since January.  How do folks do it?? I can't keep up with it monthly and I know some bloggers are on there DAILY..some hourly!!!

April is our very busy month...starts here and won't end now until probably about August.  School gets out later this year, we had so much snow that we have to make up a week...so instead of being out on May 31st...we are getting out June 6 (7th for me).  My kiddos don't seem to care...Ryan will have a 'graduation' from 5th grade...can you believe that!?!?  I don't mean the graduation... I mean the 5th grade part?!  WOW!! I will have a middle schooler in about 4 months!!  What is harder to believe is in 4 months, we'll be back in school.  Won't get much time off this year...since we go back on August 13th.  That is okay really.  I'm beginning to wonder why they don't just do the year around thing anyway.  Won't matter to me...I get paid year 'round and either way, we'll be juggling stuff.

As I said...we are going to be busy.  Kaitlyn is entering her 3rd season in Soccer...dad's second season coaching her.  She promises us she's going to have a great year this year...but havng fun is foremost, learning is second and winning comes if those two happen.  Ryan enters his 6th year of baseball.  He's on the "ASTROS" this year...so I have to go out and find me some Astros gear.  For the past few seasons, we've been fortunte to be Cubbies....so while he still likes the Cubs..he was VERY excited to hear he was on the Astros...his view was this, "Hey mom, I'm playing on a little league farm team for the Lexington Legends...since the Legends is a farm team for the Astros".... NOW... ain't that SMART!!!  Wonder if we could get any of the Legends' folks to come show some love!!! Open-mouthed   Anyway...I'm assistant coaching the "TWISTERS".. a 9-12 year old fast pitch softball team of 13 girls.  I tried desperately to get on the staff of the baseball league...but they only want women to run the concession stands, be team 'mom' or sit quietly and clap when told to.  I hate that!! So I found out the softball teams were looking for women coaches...and jumped on it.  Kaityn wants to play next year and I told her we'd see how good her soccer season is first...it would be hard for her to juggle them both right now; since they start at the same time.  Besides that....as I said...we are just very busy.

Both of them are in scouts.  Ryan and his dad went on their first BOY SCOUT campout recently.  I have photos in my photo library of Ryan with his backpack and the very confident look on his face that he was ready.  They were going to have to hike into the camp site for about 1/2 a mile..then on the Saturday, they were going to go for an 8 mile hike.  They survived and he really enjoyed it.  Ryan reportedly carried his and some of his dad's stuff on the hike without complaining.  He really did enjoy being out in nature and while they forgot the camera...I'm sure he'll never forget it.

As you may have also noticed...the photo album features Ryan's recent ORTHODONTICS regement.  He has my side of the families severe overbite...his is at 8mm!! Surprised  YES...8mm overbite.  Ryan turned out to be a VERY difficult client for the orthodontist.  He has had a 12 yr molar removed (it was growing at an angle into the 6 yr molar).  The 6 year molar is not coming in (we had hoped it would with the 12 year out of the way); so now he has to go get the 6 year molar removed.  There's a name for it, but I never remember it...but basically, the tooth has NO root and it won't drop down...the tooth has barely broken the gum and could cause infection if he gets food in there and can't get it out.  Since that happened...he has NO molars to 'anchor' to and Ryan couldn't wear the traditional head gear or other gears they use to fix overbites.  So...Ryan is this orthodontists first patient to wear what they call the "TWIN BLOCK".  It's molded with teeth like bumpers on it that force him to bite forward and as he grows for the next year or so, we hope to see the overbite being corrected.  Since it's a skeletel thing....we can only try to train the bones to move or he faces surgery...which I will let him decide on that later...right now, we will try this apparatus and see.  He was excited about getting it...I have NO idea why...but he counted down the hours until we had to be there.  He learned quickly how to put it in and take it out...and he's not been defiant about wearing it (YET). I think it'll be like his glasses....he'll wear them because he knows it is helpful to him.  He realizes his overbite is pretty bad and he wants it "fixed".  He had to learn to talk with this in his mouth..which makes me VERY happy we got it while on Spring Break...maybe in the next few days he'll have the talking down so that those kids that can be so cruel at school won't be!!

I spoke of school getting out late....well, Kaitlyn will be going off for a week at Girl Scout camp on the 8th (YES!! Surprised  two days AFTER school is out)...she'll be gone a week and she's so excited!!  She'll be attending a 'horse' camp and that is something she's been hoping to do for a few years now...she's finally old enough.  Ryan is hoping to also be gone then...he's been pratically begging us to get him into the Fish and Wildlife camp (he even brought home a brochure from school)!  Ironically, it's the same week as Kaitlyn's camp...bad thing, he misses 2 baseball games..one being the last game of the season.  Of course, a lot can change by then...games could be pushed around...but that is also the same week I'm suppose to be coaching my softball team in their tournament....

    TOLD YOU WE WERE BUSY!!!

Well, I have to go.  I've had 5 days on Spring break and only 1/2 of one day was in my craft room where I had told EVERYONE I was going to hide!  Guess the family stuff is always first.  Behind me is a table I spent 1/2 the time cleaning off yesterday that now houses Ryan's school project that is due two days AFTER Spring break...I really wish his teacher had thought this through...there's NO WAY a student would get this done if they don't work through Spring Break...OH WELL...LIFE IN THE FAST LANE!!

Good bye my readers..... if you are there....

    Catchin' up for 2008

Well..looks like I'm off to a pretty slow start for 2008.  We've had some cold weather...snow here and there.  We got an extra day of vacation to start the year off after being out for Christmas and New Years.  Then....we had a day off in January....that ended up being extended a day because of snow/ice.  That was cool!! I like having 3 day work weeks and I enjoy spending time in my craft room on these cold days.

We've finished indoor soccer....woo! hoo!!  It's now time to register for Spring sports....the kids will be doing baseball and soccer and I'm going to be coaching softball.  I'm excited!!!  I've been hoping to coach baseball; but of course, these crazy leagues these days are run by men and the 'good ole' boys' who think women belong in the stands.  Fortunately, I found that the girls league was eager to get more women coaches...I jumped on that chance.  I look forward to it...the team I'm getting is an experienced team that is pretty good (from what I've been told).

Today, we had a wonderful day.  Our big boy has crossed over from Cub Scouts to Bo Scouts!!!  His dad made a really great arrow to commemorate the years in Cub Scouts.  He did a great job and I think it will be something of special value to him later, once he realizes the significance of his dad's work.  Below is a photo of our big boy with his arrow.  I'm proud of him...even though he does not really understand what he's accomplished.  A lot of what he's done thus far has been mostly mom and dad pushing him.... as a Boy Scout, he will embark upon more adventures that are individualized and more fun...like this weekend's day hike.  Last weekend, he and his fellow Scouts attended a merit badge fair.  He's going to be spending a lot more time away from home with a bunch of boys that will help me become a better man and Scout. We wish him well as he grows into a young man!!!

He knows we are VERY proud of him....we love him!!!

    New home for the holidys

WELL....Christmas is upon us..it's now December 3rd and there's 22 shopping days left...yes, I count Christmas Eve...'cos we all pick up *something* on that day.

This year, we are blessed to be spending it in our NEW home....we closed in March and have been unpacking on a regular basis.  The fun thing about it is...we FINALLY have a home that allows us to decorate for Christmas just the way we like...and then some.  The hardest thing to find, for me, was garland.  I wanted garland and was willing to add my own lights and decor...but finding it was more difficult than I thought.  FINALLY....we found 100' of it at BIG LOTS!!!  Wow...leave it to Big Lots to come to my rescue.

Take a moment visit the photo library and see what you think.  I'm hoping for better photos soon; I'm sure I'll add more decor soon...there's ALWAYS something to add!!  I'm working on another tree for the upstairs and a few knick knacks.  I'll also get photos of the outside soon...we've done that up pretty good too.

    Happy Holidays!!!!

It will be undergoing a LOT of changes....I will soon have prices for really neat items like; photo balls, blankets, magazine prints, tickets, magnets, totes, dog tags and tons of sports novelty items.  Negotiating with the manufacturers is a tough job when you work full time too!!

If you have stumbled across this website...tell your friends about it.  I'm eager to branch my photography into other sports besides baseball and soccer....so as basketball and football season get heated up...give me a call for action shots!! You can hire me to follow your player or your team around and I will capture the action while you enjoy the game.  Sit back and relax....leave the photo memories to ME!!!

    Soccer *AND* Baseball....

We knew it was going to be a busy day... baseball started at 11am and soccer at 11:30am...how was I to get between fields and give equal attention to my stars!?!?  Well, with camera in hand...keys in pocket and good shoes on my feet, I managed...well enough.

Ryan was FINALLY starting infield at 1st base...first time for this Fall team this season.  He was all smiles when he came to tell me and I told him I was glad and for him to do his job.  His granny and papaw arrived shortly after the game started.  They too were going to do the field shuffle...but they were leaving early.  They did get to see Ryan up to bat once (only to be hit by a pitch) then they got to see him on 1st.  I was glued to the game hoping he'd make a significant play...but it was pretty much a 1-2-3 inning and they were batting again.  I was just about to rush over, notified Ryan I was going and he informed me he was pitching the next inning!!! WOW!!! YES.. I was shocked...but worried too.  He'd not taken the mound in a long time.  This coach had given him NO instruction or practice...I prayed for him as I rushed over to watch soccer.

Upon arrival, I found Kaitlyn in the goal.  They were down by one..I got to see them score a goal and rushed over to catch Ryan in a wind up...I approached slowly since I knew he'd see me as I was directly behind the catcher.  I waited until the ball crossed the plate and took my position.  Another parent walked over and gave me compliments on his form and power...but he was having trouble getting it down the middle.  He was skimming the outer edge of the plate and the volunteer coach/ref was calling them balls...a regular ump would have given him a strike on that...but he held on...he made a GREAT attempt to prevent a steal at home on a wild pitch; unfortunately, his former teammate slid right under the tag...but it was a GREAT effort!!!  He hung in and pitched a few more pitches...struggled...walked a few and the coach took a trip or two out to talk to him before finally pulling him.  He was so depressed...but he took center field and let the relief pitcher do his job.  They won...it was a slaughter. I was on my journey back to the soccer field, as I reached the fence, the game was ending.  Kaitlyn spotted me and announced that she scored a goal!! (DARN IT..I MISSED IT!!!)... she'll do it again for me...I know she will.  We got back to his game, watched it end and left the park by 2:30...GAMES OVER...do it again next week!!

    Green Machine Team

Fall ball is more of an informal setting.  It allows kids to learn the rules of the game.  Since Ryan is moving up to the Major division of the local Cal Ripken league...it's perfect instruction time for him.  He's on the GREEN team and so far, he's made friends with a middle schooler who's also a lefty.  He's managed to also get to catch at least once in every game....something that not many coaches permit of a lefty catcher!  I get frustrated when I hear coaches say, "A lefty can't catch"... and we have to constatly remind Ryan that coaches will not permit it if he is not on top of his game and show them "A LEFTY CAN CATCH".  He has to work hard to prove himself....he has to work really hard and so far he's managed to show them the error of their ways.  He's had good and bad days...don't get me wrong..he's not a perfect catcher and he has a LOT of work before he's going to be signing to play for big money...but I firmly believe, as I was raised, "he can do ANYTHING he puts his mind to".

Enjoy the photos...I enjoy taking them and watching the game between frames!!!

    Soccer...with dad as coach!!

What else is there to say... daddy loves soccer and so does his little girl!!  She's an AWESOME goalie..watching her is so fun!  The one day we had rain and overcast conditions, she played harder...getting muddy diving for the ball.  Parents were just so excited watching her.  I heard many of them say, "man that goalie is tough", as I walked up and down the sidelines taking photos.  Our team parents were very excited at her performance and said, "she is on fire today!!".  One game, against the "KICKERS" was extremely intense.  They DEFINITELY lived up to their name and Kaitlyn took a beating in the goalie box....one girl would kick at the ball even though she had it in her hands....why the ref didn't call it I have no idea!!!

More recently, I was chatting with the league photographer who was out taking action shots...we had exchanged camera talk earlier this month..he stated, "I have gotten about 50 of that goalie down there (pointing to Kaitlyn), she is down right awesome!!!"  I proudly said, "THAT is my little girl!"

I cannot wait to see the photos he got!  My camera did well, but I'm sure a professional will do better.

Enjoy the photos. .... more to come... Season will be over around October 11.

    Fall is full of fun!!

WOW!! Can you believe it's September already!?!?!?   Well, we are officially a month into the 2007 school year.  Fundraisers have started and almost ended.  School photos are underway in the next week.  I've settled into things and all of my volunteer work keeps me busy.  I'm doing the yearbooks for the elementary and middle schools...will be a fun filled year for me.

The kids are into Scouts, Ryan is working on his Webelos rank...he's almost done.  Kaitlyn is bridging up to Girl Scouts (out of Brownies).  They are also into other things.  Kaitlyn is playing soccer again...and she's GOOOD!!!  I'm so proud of her.  She loves playing.  Read my soccer blogs about her.  Ryan's in baseball...he's HOPING to make the JV team at the middle school....but for now, Fall Rec league is keeping us busy.  You can read more about that too.

    --- Back soon
    August 31

    Been a while

OK.. sorry to my readers...if there are any.  I have been very busy and simply forgot to blog a bit.

Lemmmme see...we've started school.  Got a 5th grader and 3rd grader now!!! WOW!! Do you believe it??  Once baseball and soccer was over, we just hung out at the new house...kids played with friends, rode bikes, rollerbladed, played football whatever, until dark.  I started my new job at the middle school August 7th.  The kids spent time at their grandparents while I worked and got back into the swing of things.  School started August 15th. It was an easy transition for us all...the new school has great potential and I've heard nothing but great things about it.  More recently, we learned that 5th graders can try out for sports at the middle school (they ARE next door to eachother)....so of course, the day I heard that baseball was having sign-ups, I put our information down.  He might not get on the team as a starter with the 6-8 graders...but at least he is going to try.  As soon as track, cross country and archery are open, he plans on trying for those too.

Soccer season is here.  Hubby is coaching .... we play on the REVOLUTION.  Of course, I get to be team mom!  Should be very interesting, there are only two girls on the team...one is not as aggressive as our soccer girl!!  I will be cranking up the camera soon, her first game is Thursday September 6th.

Shortly after soccer started, fall baseball started.  Since we are moving up to the 10 yr old league (Major), we are doing fall ball to get use to the rules and changes.  He's doing fine...hopes to catch, but we have another possible hurdle...a coach that does not care for a lefty to be catcher.  So they've started him at 1st during practices...he's one of I think TWO lefties on the team. He's worked on his switch hitting and is getting better.  His first game is September 8th.

Both kids are in Scouts.  We have Tuesday's that is Scout day for them both.  Her's is at 4:30 and he goes at 7pm.  Unfortunately, we've got conflicts with his ball schedule...seems they play just about every Tuesday at 6 and he's going to miss either entire games or 1/2 of them...some of the times.  He can't miss Scouts...he's got to finish his Webelos requirements THIS YEAR!  Both of them are starting on the GOD AND COUNTRY requirements for Scouting...a year long process from what I've heard.

Work is kicking my butt...mainly getting back into the technical mindset.  Fighting operating systems...learning the lingo again.  Amazing what being out of it regularly for 5 yrs can do to you.  Fortunately, I'm in a learning environment...where folks are okay with me researching for answers.  I try to fix things first....and usually it comes back to me.  I've spent most of my time cleaning up rooms that were piled with junk no one had touched in years.  Discovering a floor in our A/V room was a major accomplishment.  I have not really got an office yet...I'd like one...but I'm never sitting still.  I work on PCs in the A/V --- WORKROOM... or I'm going between floors helping in classrooms.  Good for me...the excercise...but sometimes....just sitting down is nice.  I've taken on the yearbook advisory position at the middle school...the stipend is nice to get...though it's not much...I'm glad to just be doing it.  I'm starting up a yearbook staff of students so it will be fun!!  I'm also on the PTO at the kids' elementary school...where I've volunteered to also do their yearbook.  I've gotten a few ladies that said they'd help...so that will be fun too!!  I am just loving the work..getting involved is fun...

More to come soon....stay in touch!!!!
